What is Peace?

YMCA Peace Week will take place from November 16-23, 2024.

More than the absence of violence and conflict, peace is the presence of conditions like fairness, inclusion, empathy, security, and respect for diversity. Peace is also the ongoing work of building and rebuilding these conditions. The YMCA is dedicated to strengthening the foundations of community -- and peace is fundamental to sustaining strong and healthy communities.

Act for Peace

Peace is an active state of being, not a passive one.

Acts for peace can be big or small. Either way, they tend to grow outward, creating ripples through the whole community.

An act for peace may affect only one person directly—but it may show many more people what’s possible.

Peacemakers challenge and inspire others to pursue acts for peace.

Anyone and everyone can be a peacemaker.

Traci is the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club Kamloops. BGCK is one of those lifelines and community hubs. Traci is 100% respectful to everyone…all the time. She is calm, cool and collected and always has the community, the BGCK and her staff at the for front. We at the YMCA of Kamloops are honored to call her a colleague and friend.

Y Peace Medal

Y Giving Trees

Come visit our Giving Tree in the lobbies of the JTY and the DTY. Everyone is encouraged to fill the tree with new socks, toques, mittens, gloves and scarves that will be donated to the Y Women’s Emergency Shelter at the end of November.
